SaskBooks is Saskatchewan’s provincial creative industry trade association for book publishers. We don’t publish books, but are a member-based not-for-profit association whose members are book publishers operating in Saskatchewan. Our Constitution is available here.
Our publishers are small and independent Saskatchewan businesses. The creative economy in the publishing sector includes business models like academic and scholarly publishers, institutional publishers, literary presses, hybrid presses, self-publishers, and niche publishers. SaskBooks provides programs and services to its publisher members, including but not limited to industry-specific professional development, co-operative and joint marketing projects, and we act as a champion for the book publishing sector in the province.
Saskatchewan books have an ISBN registered to a Saskatchewan publisher or business, and we strongly encourage our members to complete the Legal Deposit process with Libraries and Archives Canada.
SaskBooks functions under the direction of a Board of Directors elected from our membership of publishers. SaskBooks staff operate and manage the association and all of our projects and ongoing programs.
Any book publisher can become a member of SaskBooks, regardless of their business model. Non-publishers who operate in the publishing sector (such a printers, distributors, independent booksellers, etc.) are eligible for membership as well.
SaskBooks is grateful for the financial support it receives from Canadian Heritage via the Canada Book Fund, the Canada Council for the Arts, Creative Saskatchewan, Access Copyright Foundation, Friesen’s Printers, and Houghton Boston. We are active partners with the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild, and have worked closely with the Saskatchewan Book Awards and the Saskatchewan Library Association on numerous projects.
