The SaskBooks Board of Directors and Staff affirm that Black Lives Matter and stand in solidarity with the movement against police brutality and Anti-Black racism.
As the provincial association for book publishers, we have a critical role in the promotion, circulation, and celebration of books in Saskatchewan. According to a recent Association of Canadian Publishers’ study, “only 3% of paid positions in the Canadian publishing industry are held by Black people and only 18% by BIPOC.*” We are not only committed to examining our own complicity and shortcomings but to implementing long-term strategies and anti-racist practices. We have a responsibility to hold ourselves accountable and to actively create space for the diversity of prairie voices and stories.
